If you are looking for the best restaurants in Birmingham, you cannot go wrong with Marco Pierre White’s steakhouse. Whether it is a special occasion or date night that dreams are made of, this skyline restaurant is the perfect spot. Fun fact: Marco Pierre White gave back his Michelin stars. Although he worked for seventeen years to pursue his ambition, and was famed for being the youngest and first British chef to achieve three Michelin stars, he realised his career did not provide him with adequate returns in his personal life. So, in 1999, he retired and returned his Michelin stars. Whilst he is no longer in the kitchen cooking, he creates every menu for these restaurants using his own recipes.

The Canal House

Best restaurants in Birmingham

One of our favourite dining spots in Birmingham has to be The Canal House, rich with history in a simply stunning setting with elevated classic British food. Two dishes you fellow foodies need to try are the pork crackling with apple ketchup and the famous hanging kebabs.

Fun fact: Historically, this area of Birmingham was populated with factories at the height of the industrial revolution. The Canal House- back then known as the Old Wharf terminus was the place where narrowboats collected and off-loaded goods before continuing their journey through the extensive network of waterways. The Canal House wanted to bring the essence of the building’s past to passers by but to also make the interior fitting so that visitors could imagine what it once was in its heyday.

The interior’s concept was inspired by the life work of James Brindley- one of the most notable engineers of the 18th century. The ground floor was designed to represent his workshop- a place where workers would drop by for canal boat repairs. The first floor was designed with the aim of representing his living quarters demonstrating a light yet elegant residence.
